Paid Parental Leave Calculator Australia 2026-27

Estimate Australian Government Parental Leave Pay from a child’s birth or adoption date, each parent’s adjusted taxable income, and the days you each intend to take. The result shows the individual and family income tests, how many days and weeks that birth date unlocks (including the 2025 and 2026 expansions), the national-minimum-wage weekly rate, the before-tax total, and the 12% superannuation component where it applies.

Family situation

Reference year is usually the financial year before the birth or adoption.

Five Parental Leave Pay days equal one week on the official 5-day week.

The official rate follows the year of each day, not the birth date.

How this estimate is worked out

Parental Leave Pay is a taxable Australian Government payment. It is not the same as unpaid parental leave under the National Employment Standards, and it is not an employer-funded parental leave scheme. Services Australia decides a claim. This page only applies the published day counts, income limits and national-minimum-wage rate.

The number of days is fixed by the child’s birth or adoption date. Parliament expanded the scheme in steps: 22 weeks from 1 July 2024, 24 weeks from 1 July 2025, and 26 weeks from 1 July 2026. Partnered families have reserved days that one parent cannot take alone. If the partner does not claim those days, they are unused.

Eligibility on this page is the income test only. You pass if your own adjusted taxable income is at or under the individual limit, or if combined family income is at or under the family limit. The official examples for Reema, Dom and Ashley, and Indira on the Services Australia income-test page use that either/or rule. The work test, residence rules and care of the child are not checked here.

The weekly amount is the official Parental Leave Pay rate, which is built from the national minimum wage: 7.6 hours a day, five days a week. Fair Work’s published weekly minimum can differ by a few cents from that 5 × daily figure because of rounding. This calculator uses the Services Australia and Paid Parental Leave Guide daily rate.

Superannuation appears only for births and adoptions on or after 1 July 2025. The ATO pays it after the year ends. The figure shown is 12% of the estimated Parental Leave Pay. Official PPLSC also includes nominal interest that this page does not add.

This page is general information for people in Australia. It is not a Services Australia, Department of Social Services, Fair Work, ATO or Centrelink tool. It is not legal, financial, tax or social security advice. That approach follows ASIC’s general-information standard: we do not recommend a product or tell you whether to claim.

It does not assess the work test, newly arrived resident’s waiting period, visa rules, who is caring for the child on each day, multiple births (Parental Leave Pay is paid for one child), stillborn baby payment, or employer-funded leave. Concurrent-day limits are shown in the table and are not modelled as a calendar. Superannuation shown is the 12% SG component only.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many Parental Leave Pay days can a family get?

Services Australia sets the family balance from the child’s date of birth or adoption. From 1 July 2024 it is 110 days (22 weeks on a 5-day week). From 1 July 2025 it is 120 days (24 weeks). From 1 July 2026 it is 130 days (26 weeks).

If you have a partner, some of those days are reserved for them: 10, 15 or 20 days on the same dates. A partnered parent can take at most the family balance minus those reserved days. A single parent can use the full balance, or approve a share with the other parent.

What are the Parental Leave Pay income tests for 2026-27 births?

Services Australia looks at adjusted taxable income for the financial year before the birth or adoption (or before you lodge, if that year is earlier). For a child born or adopted from 1 July 2026 that is usually 2025-26 income.

You pass the individual test at $186,487 or less. If you are over that figure, you may still pass the family test at a combined $386,525 or less. A single person is compared with the family limit using their own income. Either test is enough.

What weekly rate is Parental Leave Pay paid at?

The daily rate is the national minimum wage hourly rate times 7.6 ordinary hours, rounded. For days taken in 2026-27 that is $26.44 × 7.6 = $200.94 a day, or $1,004.70 per 5-day week before tax. Days taken in 2025-26 were $189.62 a day ($948.10 a week).

The rate follows the financial year of each day you claim, not the child’s birth date. Parental Leave Pay is taxable. This page shows the before-tax amount only.

Is there superannuation on Parental Leave Pay?

For a child born or adopted on or after 1 July 2025, the ATO pays a Paid Parental Leave Superannuation Contribution. The base is the Super Guarantee charge percentage — 12% — on the Parental Leave Pay you received in that income year. The ATO also adds a published nominal-interest amount and pays the contribution after that year ends. This calculator shows the 12% component only. It does not estimate interest, because that depends on payment and determination dates.

There is no PPLSC for births or adoptions before 1 July 2025.

What income figure should I enter?

Enter adjusted taxable income for the reference year — the same idea you use for Centrelink family payments, not take-home pay. If you are starting from a salary, the take-home pay calculator can help you see tax and the Medicare levy first. Confirm the official adjusted taxable income rules with Services Australia before you claim.

Does this include employer paid parental leave or Child Care Subsidy?

No. This page only estimates Australian Government Parental Leave Pay. Employer-funded parental leave is a separate workplace entitlement. If you also need an estimate of Child Care Subsidy once care starts, use the Child Care Subsidy calculator.

Is this legal or financial advice?

No. This is general information about published Parental Leave Pay settings. It is not a Services Australia or Centrelink decision, and it is not legal, financial, tax or social security advice. In line with ASIC’s general-information approach, we do not recommend a product or a course of action. Confirm your claim in your Centrelink online account.
