      Statewide versus local Tasmanian holidays

      Eight Hours Day, the King’s Birthday holiday, and the national weekday holidays are treated as statewide non-working days. Easter Tuesday is listed as a restricted holiday for some awards and the State Public Service; this tool skips it with the other statewide entries so those workplaces are not under-counted as open.

      Devonport Cup, the Hobart Regatta, Recreation Day and the many show days are regional. They do not change the default total. Switch on local observances only if you are counting a district that closes on that day.

      The working-day span includes both ends when those dates are working days. Adding business days starts after the from date. Results cannot leave 2026-01-01 to2027-12-31.

      What is a TAS business day on this page?

      A Tasmania business day is a weekday that is not a statewide TAS public holiday in the official 2026 and 2027 lists. Weekends are never counted. Regional or limited observances stay in the total unless you include them.

      Where do the TAS holiday dates come from?

      They are the same official dates shown on the TAS public holidays pages. This calculator does not keep a second copy of those lists. The government source is Tasmania.

      Does Recreation Day always reduce a Tasmania working-day count?

      No. Recreation Day is marked for northern Tasmania in districts that do not observe the Royal Hobart Show. It is excluded only when you include regional observances.

      Why is Easter Tuesday skipped in the default Tasmania count?

      The official list records Easter Tuesday as a restricted holiday for some awards, agreements and the State Public Service. The default settings treat it as a non-working day so those workplaces are not shown as open. If your award does not observe it, that Tuesday is still a weekday you may need to count manually.
